On Monday morning, at Pattaya City Hall Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Aegasing and Chairman of the Ganesh Club of Pattaya, Mr. Chaiwat Detnatee announced about the annual Ganesh Elephant God celebrations that is about to go ahead this coming weekend.  Most famously the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to honour the birth of the Hindu Elephant God is spectacularly performed throughout India for a period of 11 days during either August or September, depending on the cycle of the moon. Here in Pattaya, resident devotee followers of this beloved Hindu deity will begin performing religious rituals from Saturday, 8th September, beginning at Lan Po Park in Naklua.  The festival begins with the installation of elaborately crafted statues of Ganesha in homes and temples, with offerings of sweets, flowers and fruit in the hope of gaining good fortune. On the final day, the statues are paraded through the streets accompanied by chanting, singing and dancing, and then is ritually immersed into the sea or other bodies of water to complete the cycle of life according to Hindu beliefs.
