Terror Incident in Guesthouse Lift - Pattaya People

It was like a scene from a Hollywood drama when on Wednesday evening the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team received a distress call that a man was reported to be stuck in a guesthouse lift.  A few officers went along to the 5 storey building in Soi 13, Jomtien to discover the Thai man in his 60s had been trapped on the 3rd floor for over an hour.  Immediately, the team got into action and within minutes prised open the door for the man to breathe and receive some water.  After his rescue, Mr. Tammawong stated that as he was descending from the 5th floor the lights went out and the lift started shaking before coming to a sudden stop.  Fortunately, people outside on the 3rd floor heard his shouts for help and contacted the Sawang Boriboon.  It seems that everyone will now have to use the stairs as the out of service lift is being investigated.

Nightlife Reviews: Ticking Over...

Club Nevada is located at the Beach Road end of Soi 13/2 (Soi Post Office)
The bar is still ticking over in its minimalist sort of way. Its probably the weakest of the clutch of GoGos in this soi and next. Far East Rock scores as a hangout bar while Hot & Cold and Las Vegas offer the best hands on fun.
The best information about Thailand and Pattaya can be found at the Pattaya Thailand Travel Guide.
Las Vegas generally has 3 or 4 dancers at a time and 3 or 4 more waiting their turn. The dress code is nude, topless or bikini depending on the girl. The music is oldie rock and it doesn't inspire the dancers very much.
The girls are friendly enough, but sometimes they seem to prefer to vanish off upstairs or outside rather than looking after customers.
Drinks are cheap though, and overall the bar provides a pleasant rather than enthralling experience.

Thailand News: Ethically Correct...

Thailand's Daily News newspaper has reported the alarming news of the latest move by the Thai TV censor to improve the country's notorious soap operas.

Thais and even some foreigners who have been here long enough know how many of these popular TV melodramas are committed to over-dramatisation and stereotyping of characters.

Jealousy, class discrimination, chauvinism, exaltation of wealth and power, violence, typecasting and reinforcement of prejudices against people like housemaids, ethnic minorities and transvestites prevail in these television series. In recurring soap storylines, protagonists often can't seem to do anything wrong even when they commit some wrongs.

Daily News quoted Supinya Klangnarong, a member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), as saying guidelines will be issued to TV and radio producers addressing the negative aspects of Thai soaps in the hope that the industry can regulate itself. While such a code of ethics will be non-binding, a warning will have been given and the future granting or renewal of permits by the NBTC to produce TV and radio content will be conditional on a review of soap-opera content, she said.

Supinya, who chairs the committee for the promotion of self-regulation, was quoted as saying that she is aware that Thai soap operas are like sweets.

The more you eat the more delicious they become. But if you eat them everyday you will become fat. So

Nightlife News: New Bee Bar Owners...

Taxes for liquor and cigarettes were increased yesterday, with government officials projecting the tax hikes will generate an additional 12 billion baht in revenue for the state each year.

The boost in excise taxes for liquor and cigarettes is also expected to reduce consumption by increasing consumer prices.

Cabinet members approved an increase in taxes for white spirits to 150 baht per litre of 100% alcohol content, up from 120 baht previously. For blended spirits, the tax was increased to 350 baht per litre of 100% alcohol content, up from 300 baht previously.

Cigarette excise taxes, meanwhile, were increased to 87%, up from 85% previously.

Officials estimate that store prices for Marlboro cigarettes should increase by eight baht per pack, six baht for Mild Seven cigarettes and six baht for Krong Thip cigarettes.

Benja Louichareon, director-general of the Excise Department said that the tax hikes were relatively limited as many rates already were at or near the ceiling permitted under the law. Sharp increases could result in more smuggling or tax evasion, she said, adding the Excise Department favoured an overhaul of the entire excise tax structure to allow current rate ceilings to be increased.

Pol. Lt. Nightlife in Pattaya

Pattaya Night lifeThe cool thing about Pattaya is that it is for all tastes - you can always find lots of places to do your thing at. Most of the nightlife action geared towards tourists is found in South Pattaya, with the densest concentration of bars, GoGo bars, massage parlours and discos along the famous neon-drenched strip known as Walking Street. Pattaya is synonymous with nightlife, and go-go bars blazed the trail for all that followed suit. These enclosed bars, in which scantily clad girls strut, shuffle and sway seductively around steel poles, are the reason many come to Pattaya. Usually the entry is free, photography forbidden, music loud, booze flowing, girls available. Nudity is illegal in Thailand, but here in Pattaya's gogo land rules are made to be broken. Prices for drinks average around 120 baht for a beer or shot and mixer, with drinks for your half-naked host coming in at slightly more. Pattaya is famous for its beer bars sometimes also called bar-beer. They're ramshackle, cheap and loud but often a lot of fun – Pattaya's beer bars are quite legendary. Some are in enclosed shophouses, but most come jammed together inside tatty corrugated iron roofed places around Walking Street and lower Beach Road. Anyone on a budget can get a few drinks here quite cheaply
