Flood in Soi Bunganjanaraam Temple - Pattaya People

On Tuesday morning, Deputy Mayor Weerawat Kahkai and members of the Pattaya City Council visited Mare La-or Market on Soi Bungan-jana-raam Temple, in Jomtien.  Heavy rains had flooded the residential areas around the market and caused a great deal of damage and losses for the people.

The inspection team, led by the Deputy Mayor, found that this neighborhood was pan shaped, with the homes at the bottom of the pan. The worst hit area was inside Soi Bunganjanaraam 4, behind the Mare La-or Market, where many houses were flooded, and the water was reluctant to drain out to the sea.

Pattaya City Hall has started a project in an adjacent area to prevent flooding, using 2X2-meter-Converse Block Pipes. These pipes have been laid along Tepprasit to drain water to the sea more effectively and quickly, and this will certainly help the Bunganjanaraam area when completed in the middle of 2013. Two Navy Officers Hurt, One Dies, in Road Accident - Pattaya People

On Thursday just before dawn, the Pattaya-Dongtan Police Investigating Inspector Pol. Col. Attaroet Krong-ratch were called to investigate an accident on Sukhumvit Road, at the traffic light in front of Pattaya School No. 7, on the out bound to Sattahip side. The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team was also contacted for assistances.

At the scene right by the traffic lights, Petty Officer First Class Jakrapan Nantametin, aged 25 from the Sattahip Navy Base, was found lying on the road. The officer had sustained a serious head injury, and had lost a massive amount of blood. The rescuers gave the officer first aid, then took him to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Then the police examined another body, also a naval officer, aged 25-30, who had died from a dreadful head injury and multiple fractures to his arms and legs. The body lay near a blue-black Honda Wave 110 motorcycle, which was also wrecked up on the sidewalk.

There were no eyewitnesses, so the police came to a preliminary conclusion that these 2 men were driving the motorcycle at extreme speed, coming out from Soi Wat Boon, and then turning towards Sattahip, when the driver lost control and crashed the bike into the sidewalk, injuring both of them. The police also suspect that there could have been another vehicle involved.

Further investigations will be made, and the body of the deceased was sent to Banglamung Hospital, awaiting the family.

Presenting 8th Miss International Queen Contest at Tiffany's - Pattaya People

On Tuesday evening, Chonburi Immigration Police arrested a 56 year old Australian male national at a bar and restaurant on Soi Noi in East Pattaya.   Mr. Luciano Glavina was arrested for suspected extortion, as he apparently recently posted nude photos of a Thai woman on the Internet, after she refused to pay up and be blackmailed.  Instead the unnamed woman contacted the police to take action as the photos have ruined her reputation.   Luciano, originally from Italy, was also accused of displaying explicit pornography on the Internet, and an arrest warrant was issued in Rayong Court since late September.  Immigration got involved and traced Luciano to Pattaya and surveyed the restaurant which was believed to be his favourite haunt.  Sure enough, he turned up that evening and was immediately arrested.  He denied all charges, but was detained before being sent to Rayong for further investigation.

Woman Rescued From Robbers - Pattaya People

On Sunday right after midnight, the Sriracha Police were called by people who reported an attempted theft and bodily harm on the Bangpra Reservoir-Naplaaw Road. The attack happened to woman, Mrs. Yupa Kreua-kaam, aged 49, who was abducted and slapped in her face many times by the 2 male robbers, aged 17-18.  These thugs had followed her on their motorbike, while she was riding her motorcycle home, taking her usual route. Then these ruffians drove up beside her, and shoved her motorcycle to the ground.

After her bike fell over and Yupa was lying on the ground, one of the robbers dragged her to sit in the front seat of the bike. Then he jumped on her bike to drive them into a dark bushy area, while the other thief drove the robber’s bike.

The one driving her bike threatened her to tell what was underneath the seat. Wisely, she did not tell them that it was 50,000 baht. She tried to look at the crook’s face, but she got slapped many times for trying. Then, passing a group of people sitting at Uncle Chob’s Restaurant, Yupa decided to scream out for help. She decided to risk it, as it was do or die at this point, because after this restaurant, there would only be bushy areas with no people, and she would probably be killed.

Clever Yupa decided to switch off the bike’s motor, and when the engine was off, she screamed again, and the locals ran out and saved her; however, the 2 robbers were able to flee the scene. The police started tracing the suspects immediately, and believe they must know of Yupa’s movements and work habits, and clearly expected to snag something valuable underneath her seat.

Shooting on Thepprasit Road - Pattaya People

On Sunday at 1:30 am, the Pattaya Police Deputy Suppressing Inspector Pol. Lt. Pallop ring-rod received a report of a shooting on Thepprasit Road, near the Weekend Market, where a group of teenagers were badly injured.

The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team were contacted for assistance, and at the scene, a red-black Honda Scoopy motorcycle was found in the middle of the road, near 3 injured male teenagers, age 15-15-16. One of them had been shot in the middle of his back, one in his right arm and chest, leaving him in a severe condition, and one was spared by the gunshots, and only suffered scrapes from falling off the bike.

The 2 injured teens were given first aid, then sent to Banglamung Hospital. The teen who was uninjured stated that they were on their way back from a live concert in Laem Chabang, with a larger group of motorcyclists and passengers. When they arrived in Pattaya, they were about to drop one teen at his home in Soi Korpai, but they noticed a big group of motorcyclists following them. Then, a male teen from the bike gang pulled out a gun and started shooting at them, before fleeing to Sukhumvit Road.

Further investigations will be made, starting with the CCTV camera videos.  Officials expect that the motive for the shootings could be revenge by an old enemy, or even just a macho, gun-happy teenager showing off his new-found powers.

Vegetarian Festival Gets Underway in Naklua - Pattaya People

Many Buddhist countries celebrate life by holding a vegetarian festival each year in order to, for a short period of time, to save the lives of many livestock animals destined for the dinner plate.  For a period of approximately 2 weeks during October, people, both vegetarian and non vegetarian, take part in non meat eating practices during their mealtimes, in the belief of gaining merit.  Here in the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand, it was no exception, with many towns and cities putting on their own festivities. In Pattaya, the annual Vegetarian Festival is usually organised by Pattaya City Hall and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, located in Naklua, where the main events takes place.  This year is the 9th occasion for this colourful and meaningful happening, which got underway from the 14th October with a beautiful parade of bands and customary dragon and lion dances associated with the Thai-Chinese communities.  The traditional giant pan of vegetables and rice cooked by a number of invited VIPs was the centre of attention before all the festivities began.  This year, the Minister of Culture, Mrs. Sukumol Khunplume was guest of honour to open the festival.  Speeches were made by Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunplume, Chonburi Governor Khomsan Ekachai and the Chairman of the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, Mr. Wisit Chawalit-nithi-tham.

The suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a bailed drug suspect over the weekend in Jomtien, has now given himself up to Police. On Sunday afternoon Pattaya Police confirmed they had formally arrested Khun Nut aged 34, whose real name is Khun Sa-hus who had confessed to the murder of Khun Somyot aged 39 outside of his Mother’s house in Jomtien on Saturday morning. A reconstruction of the murder was held on Sunday afternoon under the watchful eye of the Provincial Police Commander Police Major General Katcha. The suspect was wearing a bullet proof jacket and extra Police Officers were drafted in, as members of the victim’s family had promised retribution as soon as they saw the suspect. Khun Sa-hus confirmed he fled the scene following the shooting and hid his 38 Caliber firearm in bushes close to Makro Supermarket in Jomtien but he soon decided that because he was well known to Police and others as a prolific drug dealer in the area, the chances of him eluding capture were slim. He then handed himself in and since then has fully cooperated with Police investigators who were told that because he suspected the victim had named him as a drug dealer to Police, his arrest was inevitable and in revenge for this he decided to end the victim’s life. He was later charged with murder and awaits trial.

On Sunday evening at 6pm Pattaya Police received reports of a foreign man who had been stabbed and was lying in the middle of a street presumably dead. Police Major General Katcha, the Provincial Police Commander was informed and rushed to the scene, at the Suksabai Villas in South Pattaya. In the middle of the street lay the body of Mr. Timo Juhani Tara aged 65. He had been stabbed in his left chest area and the blood-stained knife thought to have been used in the attack was located close to the body. Police were able to determine that Mr. Tara lived in a rented apartment in Soi Khopai, also in South Pattaya, and went to check his room. A suspicious death occurred at a construction site of a new Condominium in South Pattaya on Monday Morning. Police were called to the site in Soi 50 off the Sukhumvit Road and met with Mrs. Da-houn aged 28, who was crying uncontrollably. She had been woken up by her two brothers, who also work at the site. They led her to the body of her husband Mr. Tong aged 30. He had been stabbed in his neck and according to investigators had been dead for at least 5 hours prior to the discovery. When Police arrived any potential witnesses ran away as the Cambodian workers assumed the Police had come to arrest them due to lack of work permits and passports. They questioned Mrs. Da-houn who confirmed she and her Husband would fight on regular occasions and on Sunday Night Mr. Tong, who had been drinking since early evening, entered into another argument with his wife on the top floor of the construction. Police suspect she is not telling the entire story and believe that her brothers and maybe herself are involved in Mr. Tong’s death. The investigation continues.

A 16 year old boy was one of a group of suspected drug users caught at a Pattaya Police Checkpoint located in South Pattaya in the early hours of Tuesday. The checkpoint was located at the entrance to Soi 15 off Soi Buakow and a total of nine men were stopped and subjected to a roadside drug test. These presumptive tests will be confirmed with a more detailed blood test which will be conducted at Banglamung Hospital later on Tuesday. The most serious case related to the 16 year old boy who was caught in possession of 10 Yabba Tablets and 4 Packets of Crystal Methamphetamine weighing 1.3g. Due to the quantity of drugs seized, the boy, who was only recently released from a Young Offenders Institute, was charged with the serious offence of class 1 drug distribution. It was determined the boy did not work as a motorbike taxi driver and only borrowed the jacket to avoid problems with Police. The plan did not work and he was later charged. He claimed to be selling drugs to people on Pattaya Beach and was introduced to drug dealing by a fellow inmate at the Institute during his stay there.  The case will now go to Court.

Farang land: Miserable in Liverpool...

Victoria's Secret has quickly pulled an Asian-themed lingerie collection called Go East that was ludicrously accused of trading in sexualized, generic pan-Asian ethnic stereotypes.

The item nutters found most offensive? The $98 Sexy Little Geisha teddy. This item was part of the lingerie giant's Sexy Little Things product category

The Sexy Little Geisha teddy boasted an obi-style belt and was accessorized with chopsticks for your hair and a paper fan. Your ticket to an exotic adventure: a sexy mesh teddy with flirty cutouts and Eastern-inspired florals, read the promotional blurb.

However Mimi Nguyen, associate professor of women's and Asian American studies at the University of Illinois flagged the collection as a set of stereotypical images that use racist transgression to create an exotic edge.

She pointed out that all of the models wearing the Go East lingerie are non-Asian. Asians can't wear things like the 'sexy little geisha' outfit without looking ridiculous, she says.

Following this nutter uproar, Victoria's Secret promptly yanked the Sexy Little Geisha outfit, and then obscured access to the whole Go East collection.

Nightlife News: Speaking of China...

Show Girls on Soi LK Metro also opened on 4th October.

I visited Showgirls A-GoGo on Oct 5, 2012 and stayed there for the massive rain that night for 2-3 hours, before wading through ankle deep water on Soi LK Metro and knee deep water on Soi Diana and Soi Buakhaow.

The downstairs is badly screwed up and agree with Ishi's comments. Go directly to the second floor stairs if you can negotiate those seated or standing around.

The second floor part is much bigger and lots more girls, some coyote in the window visible from Soi LK Metro, as well as various cages, some dancing topless on the second floor glass ceiling of the first floor.

The third floor is for parties and short time.

There is a glass elevator between the second and third floors which moves up and down with a coyote dancer visible from Soi LK Metro.

News from Ishi, October 2012: First Impressions

Initial comments centred on warm beer and a rather poor layout of the downstairs bar.

Seems best to try upstairs. Drinks prices are reported to be higher than the Soi LK norm.
