As the 3rd Saturday of September is the World’s Beach Cleanup Day, Pattaya City Hall, in cooperation with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Coca Cola Thailand Ltd held a Beach and Coastline Cleanup Day on Saturday afternoon, starting at the beach by Soi 4, Pattaya Beach Road. The Grand Opening was conducted by the Secretary of the Environment, Minister Sakda Nopasit, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ronagit Ekasing and the Chief of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Mr. Boon-chorb Sut-ta-ma-nat-wong.

Pattaya Beach was tidied up for 1.7 km, and on the islands, a team of 300 volunteers on the beaches and 50 volunteer divers gathered trash that was on the beach and under the sea around Lan and Saak Islands. The most common types of rubbish found on the beach were plastic bags, snack packages, plastic bottles and cigarettes butts, while the undersea garbage consisted of empty bottles of beer, energy drinks, and whisky. This kind of trash has killed many dolphins and turtles in the past.

The activity was exciting for all, as many celebrities joined in this Cleaning day to spice up the goings-on, such as the famous actress Miss Pancake Kemanit and Mr. Prem Busarakamwong.
