Vegetarian Festival Offers Sustenance to Hungry Souls - Pattaya People

On Monday morning at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, the Vegetarian Festival had come to the near-final stage with the Hungry Souls Feeding Ceremony. Hundreds of Chinese-Thai Buddhists contributed their time and donations of food and money to buy the Chinese traditional gold and silver colored papers that symbolize the basic needs of hungry souls, such as clothes, money, and other conveniences to be used in after-death world. The participants burnt the offerings during the ceremony, believing that this will send all their donations to the hungry souls, who are still wandering homeless in their afterlife.  The observance offered all the assistance to the hungry souls without families, as these deceased receive no help or prayers from families. The Chinese believe that feeding hungry souls will bring protection and merit to the donors.

The Chairman of Sawang Boriboon Foundation Mr. Wisit Chalalitnititam and the Chairman of Sawang Boriboon Rescue Section Mr. Prasit Tongtidjarern led the volunteers and the people in this merit obtaining ceremony, and then allocated many generous donations to all the less fortunate and living people, who came to accept the offerings as they do every year.

Dropping Ceremony before Vegetarian Season Ends - Pattaya People

On Tuesday at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation in Naklua, the Foundation’s Committee, led by Mr. Banjoeng Kanawattanagoon, oversaw the Chinese-Thai Buddhists’ last ceremony before the vegetarian season ends. This last observance of the festival was donating raw rice, blankets, basic medicines and basic needs to the less fortunate. The Committee and Guests of Honor threw the donations over the balcony to the ground, where the poor people collected them for their use.  This ceremony, called Te-kra-jaad, is always done before the vegetarian festival ends, to share nature’s bounty with poor people. The participants dedicate the merit they obtain to their deceased family members, and to the hungry souls who still wander in the afterworld, and are unable to pass over into light and peace. The “Te-kra-jaad ceremony” was done after a ritual of worship and devotion to all the angel spirits who protect the universe.

A while after she went to the 5th Floor to see her boyfriend, the sounds of an argument started, and a bit later, Jutatip, cut and bleeding, was brought down by her boyfriend to ask for help. The cutter blade was seized and pictures taken as evidence, and further investigations will follow when Jutitip can make a full statement. The primary assumption the police made was that Jutitip slashed her arm and wrist to hurt her boyfriend’s feelings, after things did not go her way in the fight.

On Saturday morning, a team of Nongprue Managers led by Mayor Maai Chaiyanit visited the now under construction garbage treatment plant, located on Soi Tung-gloem Taanmaan 29. The new plant has been causing serious disputes between the residents and Nongprue Municipality for a while.  The residents were tolerating the bad odors coming from the rubbish treatment plant for some time, as it was not completed, but now the rubbish has piled up, and is emitting very noxious odors.

The people requested that the municipality dispose of the current pile of rubbish, and add no more piles of garbage until the plant is completed. However, the Mayor asked the people to be patient, and understand that there is no other place for garbage disposal for Nongprue. The Mayor promised that the plant will be completed within 1 month, and the atmosphere return to normal.

“Thailand Tour De Ski 2012” - Pattaya People

On Saturday afternoon in front of the New Nordic Hotel, friends and family members of 3 Norwegian men, Mr. Kalle Kristensen, Mr. Peter Fagerland and Mr. Kjell Isak Sundbo gathered to congratulate these hardy fellows, who had roller-skied from Chiang Rai to Pattaya, a distance of over 1,000 km. These men dedicated their time and effort to host the “Thailand Tour De Ski 2012”, to raise  funds for a small school in their village in Chiang Rai, which lacks educational tools and materials for its students.

Mr. Kalle Kristensen and his wife have lived in this village for a while, and saw the needs of this school.  They started this charity drive with 2 friends, and departed from Chiang Rai on October 15th.  Along the way, the team sold many souvenirs and collected donations, and arrived in Pattaya with over 400,000 baht for the school.

Kalle has been roller-skiing in Thailand for 8 years now, and the notion of skiing from Chiang Rai to Pattaya had been in his thoughts since moving from Pattaya to Chiang Rai four years ago. The trip also caught the attention of Kalle’s home-country, Norway, where several newspapers followed the trip, as well as TV-channels in Thailand.  Next up is a celebration and welcome party on Monday, at Somsiri Garden Restaurant on Soi Pratamnak 4, where the travelers can relax after their long journey, plus raise some more funds by auctions.

SMART FOOD - Pattaya People

On this occasion it was to visit a recently opened fast food venue located in the busy central area of Soi 13/2 (Post Office) off either Pattaya Beach Road or Second Road.  It is called Smart Food, which opened just over a month ago.  This is a small and spotlessly clean, bright and cheerful, outlet where you have a choice of eating your food inside at the modern style bar area or outside on the roadside path area with tables and chairs provided, or simply order your food to take away from the see through bar counter.  They also offer a delivery service.  The menu offers a range of 21 good quality recipes at extremely low prices!  Indeed their menu contains a number of popular dishes such as Hot Dogs, Pancetta, (Bacon), Burgers and Pork Chops – and being Greek owned also includes a few Greek meat favourites such as Pork or Chicken Souvlaki (skewered meats) and Pork Gyros (cut from the Rotisserie).  And when I said low prices – just read on – a long Bread Roll generously filled with either Pork Gyros, Pork Pancetta, or Pork Chops or Pork or skewers of Chicken Souvlaki or a good old fashioned Pork Burger – all served with Fried Potatoes, Tomatoes and Onions at a mere 49 baht.  For all the above dishes, but with three skewers of your choice plus a glass of Coke or Sprite you pay 99 baht.   The same goes for the other dishes, such as an offering of Pork Burger, 2 Pork Chops with Bread and fried Potatoes, or 2 Pork or Chicken Souvlaki, Burger (or Pork Chop), Bread, fried Potatoes, Tomatoes and Onions plus soft drink, again at 99 baht a plate.  Specialty of the house is a dish containing 9 Pork Souvlaki skewers, Bread, Fried Potatoes, Tomatoes and Onions, plus a liter and half bottle of Coke for 299 baht.  There are three extra dishes available for the Take Away Service (via WOW); they being Pork Gyros with Rice and Salad which is offered on Tuesday, 3 Pancettas with Rice and Salad on Thursdays, and 2 Pork Burgers with Rice and Salad on Saturdays – all three dishes at 65 baht each. (The Delivery fee for zones covering

central Pattaya to Pratamnak is 30 baht).  No alcohol available.  And so to the eating!  We tried extremely tasty Pancetta – a specialty slightly fatty Bacon that is full of flavour and literally melts in the mouth.  Then it was on to a dish of Pork Souvlaki – tender chunks of Pork loin served with Fries, Bread and a very good fresh Salad.  The same can be said of the Pork Gyros, cut to order from the Rotating Grill, slices of moist Pork meat again served with Fries and the good Salad accompaniment – all washed down with Coke.   So, what can one say about Smart Food; well it is not the kind of place one goes out to have a dining experience, but it is an extremely clean, friendly outlet serving generous amounts of good quality Meat dishes and all at amazingly low prices.  Give them a go – you will not be disappointed!  Located half way down Soi 13/2 – not far from the Post Office!  Open every day from 10am until 10pm.  Telephone 083 751 5503 for information and Take Away Service.

Burmese Thief Captured - Pattaya People

On Tuesday, the  Pattaya Police were notified of a burglary at the building behind Pattaya School number 8, and that the burglar was still hiding in the building. The Police then rushed to the scene.

When the Police arrived they found a 4 storey building, with the downstairs shop operating as a beauty parlor, and upstairs offering rooms for rent.  The officers discovered that 5 rooms had been broken into, and that the robber had swiped many valuable items. The building manager and neighbors blocked the entrance and exit to prevent the thief from escaping.

The Police and volunteers went to check a building nearby, which is a residence for Burmese workers. They found a suspicious fellow on the 2nd floor and arrested him, who was later identified as Saw Phoe Yay Khal, aged 30, from Burma, in possession of a shoulder bag containing a purse and cash.

The owner of the burgled building Khun Pra-pai Kit-ti-ta-non, said that while she was watching TV downstairs, she heard a sound upstairs like somebody breaking a glass. At first she did not feel alarmed, but later she told her son to take a look. When he found that the louvers on the 2nd floor were broken, he then went up to the 3rd floor and found the offender ransacking the property. When the crook saw her son, he tried to use a wooden stick to hit the son, so the son ran to notify the building manager and call the police. At the preliminary hearing, the thief denied everything, but the investigation will proceed.

Many Buffalos and Cows Stolen - Pattaya People

On Wednesday, the Sriracha Police was summoned by Mrs. Bahn-joeng Proem-rahk, aged 56, who lives in Bang-pra. She stated that her 2 buffalos had just been stolen. Their enclosure was broken on one side, but that was all she know about the theft.

A witness reported that the 2 buffaloes were brought over to the neighbor’s tapioca farm, then put on a pickup near the Khao Kheow Open Zoo Bridge, heading towards Bangkok at about 1 am.

The same area has seen many cows and buffalos stolen from a number of residents since September, as the prices of these animals have increased recently.

Mrs. Bahn-joeng could only file a complaint, and hope the police would be able to catch the thieves and bring her buffalos back to her. The pair of buffalos could be sold for as much as 100,000 baht, and she is now worried that she will have to spend 50,000 baht per buffalo, in order to have 2 buffalos again.

After Hours Theft at Banglamung Hospital - Pattaya People

On Wednesday right after midnight, the Banglamung Police Investigating Inspector Pol. Sub Lt. Pisarn Hoeng-fa-gaew were called by Banglamung Hospital staff to report a theft at the Hospital. The police went to investigate the hospital’s Patayatorn Building, where a donation box was placed.

This donation box, containing about 10,000 baht, had been moved to a corner, from its original location in front of the Out Patient Pharmaceutical Room, and was wide open.

The security guard on duty Mr. Pranom Kahntoe, aged 34 stated that he closed the building at 10 pm as usual, and remained on guard around the premises. About an hour after closing the building, the alarm went off, and they found the donation box ransacked.

A food vender nearby stated that she witnessed a dark skinned man, with his face covered by a surgical mask, acting like he was having problems with his bicycle. She saw him push the bike into a deep corner of the building, acting like he was going to fix the bicycle, and later saw him push it out again.  The CCTV cameras in the building were not functioning, and the police could not review any videos at cameras located at nearby stores, so had to wait till morning. The main assumption is that this thief must have been hiding in the building before the building was closed, and started stealing the money when the hospital staff left.

On Wednesday at 3:30 am, the Sawang Boriboon Rescue team was called for assistance with an accident on the Pattaya to Pong Route, inbound to Pattaya, and opposite a PTT gas station. A white car had crashed into an electric pole, breaking the pole in half. The broken half fell on the median strip, and trapped the driver in the car.

The driver, Mr. Teerawat or Gab Kanawattanagoon, aged 27, was extricated after the rescuers used a steel cutter to slice open the car. This took a full half an hour, and then the driver was sent to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

While reporters were taking pictures, a group of men who appeared to be very drunk approached the reporters and tried to stop them, claiming that the injured person was from a wealthy family. However, as public property was destroyed, legal proceedings will be taken.

End of Buddhist Lent - Pattaya People

On Wednesday morning, the final day of the Buddhist Lent, which is observed for the 3 months of the rainy season, Bunsampan Temple and many temples in Banglamung were flooded with Buddhists who came to conduct the traditional ceremonies to obtain merit and offer food to the monks. Everyone prayed for a good future for everyone, even though the rain was pouring down.

The numbers of Buddhists attending this year seemed to be even more than the previous year, which made Bunsampan Temple seem to be a bit smaller than its actual size.

Nightlife News: More Upstairs (Or Less Depending on How You Look at It)...

Ginza A-GoGo is newly opened on Walking Street next door to Nui's Club 2.

I was in Ginza last night around midnight. They did have draught beer for 65 baht as opposed to the 59 baht it costs during happy hour.

The upstairs bar is now open and features nude and topless dancers, while the downstairs dancers are now bikini-clad. However the upstairs bar is very tiny and only features 2 or 3 dancers at a time.

An Italian Tourist was drugged and robbed in his Central Pattaya Hotel room on Tuesday. The unconscious occupant of room number 302 on the 3rd floor of the Classic Inn Hotel on the Central Pattaya Road, was discovered by hotel cleaners. Mr. Vito Giannuzzi aged 69 was lying naked on the bed and was due to check-out before midday. He was found just before 2pm and a receptionist told Police that just before 2.45am, Mr. Giannuzzi was seen returning to his room with a Thai woman, thought to be aged around 45. The Hotel did not keep a copy of her Thai ID card and the Hotel’s CCTV system was malfunctioning at the time of the incident therefore only a vague description of the woman was given to Police. An empty wallet was seen in the room and Police suspect its contents were stolen by the woman, although this cannot be confirmed for now as Mr. Giannuzzi is unable to communicate with Police due to the effects of, what is thought to be, sleeping tablets which are thought to have been placed inside a glass of water. Police will follow-up the case with the victim as soon as he recovers from the effects of the drugs he was administered.

40 Transsexuals arrested by Pattaya Police in Beach Road sweep

pattya city real estate property condos house sale rent buy jomtien bangkok luxury hotel spa resort store gold silver

In their never-ending quest to rid the streets of those suspected of either engaging or preparing to commit crimes and as they attempt to improve the image of Pattaya in preparation for a High Season which is expected to attract more families than ever before, Pattaya Police rounded-up 40 transsexuals who were caught roaming the streets in and around the South Pattaya entertainment zone in the early hours of Saturday. The Police have identified these wandering transsexuals as the key group of potential trouble-makers and will now remove them from the streets of Pattaya on a nightly basis until they are forced to either stop what they are doing, or to relocate, which is the more likely option. Laws dictate that unless evidence is collated which proves they are involved in prostitution or other criminal acts they can only be fined for loitering which is what they were charged for on Saturday morning. 100 Baht fines were paid by each transsexual who was then released with a stern warning not to be seen in the area again. Unless tougher regulations are imposed on loiterers and those suspected of involvement in criminal activities then the Police know the suspects will simply return to where they were picked-up from and continue what they were doing prior to their arrest.
