British Tourist drowns following fight at South Pattaya all-night Disco

Posted on December 2, 2012

A 28 year old British man from Cambridge in Eastern England who had travelled to Thailand with his two friends to celebrate his recent release from Prison in UK, drowned as he and his two friends jumped into the sea to escape a group of angry Thai men they had encountered in an all-night discotheque.

Police and Sea Rescue Services were called to Pattaya Beach at the location of the old pier close to the Entrance of Walking Street early on Sunday afternoon to deal with the incident.

The body of Mr. Patrick Lawrence Molloy aged 28 had been recovered from the sea by a Speed Boat operator who was in the area and assisted sea rescue units. Mr. Molloy’s friends named as Mr. James Louis Wills aged 29 and Mr. Jerry Robson aged 30 had managed to swim to a nearby pleasure boat. It is thought the deceased man attempted to swim to a banana boat attached to a speed boat located 500 meters from the shore but went under the water before he could reach the inflatable.

Mr. Molloy had been released early from an 18 week prison term handed-down for a violent assault outside a bar in Newmarket in the United Kingdom. He is known to have a string of offences against his name, relating to violent incidents he is alleged to have been involved in around Central and Eastern England.

The men are believed to have entered into an altercation in the Marine 2 Discotheque with a group of 5 to 6 Thai men who chased them out of the club and down Walking Street. The three Brits were seen to run through Tankay Seafood Restaurant which is on the beach-side of the street and jump into the water, all swimming away in separate directions.

Police are yet to locate the Thai men who are believed to have chased the three Brits through Walking Street. The British Embassy in Bangkok have been made aware of the incident. Mr. Wills and Mr. Robson are helping Police with their enquiries.
