On Wednesday, Khun Su-ri-ya Saeng-pong, the Director of Khao-Kheow open zoo revealed that the zoo was very happy to welcome a new member of the Red-shanked Douc Langur family. The little male monkey was born on 9 October 2012, from his mother “Chom-poo” and his father “Ma-kham”.

The zookeepers are presenting a show of feeding food to the family of red-shanked Doucs, with the show times at 9.30am/11.30am./2pm./4pm. everyday.

Douc langurs are found in Southeast Asian countries of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The beautiful red-shanked douc langur is only found in north and central Vietnam and Laos. The colorful red-shanked douc langur looks like a potbellied little man wearing a gray shirt and black pants. Over the pants it wears deep maroon leg warmers from its knees to the ankles. Its face is a beautiful reddish yellow with powder blue eyelids over humorous dark eyes.

The red-shanked douc langur is on the List of endangered species, and international trade is prohibited. However, the laws protecting the douc langurs have been difficult to enforce. Further information call 038-318444 and www.kkopenzoo.com
