LOUIS RESTAURANT - Pattaya People

This week it was out to the start of Naklua Road to pay a return visit to Louis Restaurant.  Louis is a family run restaurant courtesy of Khun Vichai Priyatrakulruji. Now going into its second year, Louis is undeniably one of Pattaya’s most excellent gourmet restaurants, with an enviable reputation of providing superior dining at affordable prices and faultless service.   Louis is for discerning diners to experience the gastronomical delights.   Located on Soi 31 off Naklua Road, Khun Vichai chose to decorate this open fronted fan cooled venue with discrete artifacts and comfortable furniture.

The menu (in both English and German) includes a good choice of hot and cold Appetizers ranging from 130 baht for Chicken Liver Parfait, 170 baht for Sauteed Frogs Legs to 350 baht for Pan Fried Goose Liver (Fois Gras).

Good tasting Homemade Soups are on offer such as French Onion with Cheese Croutons at 80 baht, to Lobster Bisque at 95 baht.

Freshly prepared Salads are available from 90 baht for Mixed Seasonal to 170 baht for Crab and Shrimp Salad on Ragout of Avocado.  Pasta dishes at 150 baht include Spaghetti, Fettuccini, Penne, Fusilli with a choice of delicious sauces to choose from such as Tuna or Clams or popular favourites Bolognese and Carbonara.  A house specialty is the Spinach Mousse Ravioli with Gorgonzola Sauce at 190 baht.

The main course dishes combine a wide selection of Meats from 195 baht for pan fried Duck Breast with Savoy Cabbage Parcel to imported Steaks such as New Zealand Lamb Chops (440 baht) or Australian Tenderloin (550 baht) – all served with seasonal Vegetables and choice of Potato recipes and Sauces.  There are also very good quality local Beef Steaks such as Sirloin and Tenderloin are 290 baht.

The Charcoal Grill section offers Steaks such as Salmon (230 baht) to 550 baht for top quality Australian Fillet.

For Fish and Seafood, try good old fashioned Fish and Chips (195 baht), pan fried Maine Scallops, Spinach Noodles and Saffron Sauce (320 baht) or delicate tasting fillet of Snow Fish with Redcurrant Chutney at 450 baht.  Authentic Thai dishes are plentiful from 90 baht.  Louis also provides each week a good value 3 course Set Dinner.

We settled on three appetizers, a first class cold Beef Carpaccio (160 baht) fine cuts of quality air dried Beef with a beautiful topping of Shallots, Tomato, Hazelnuts and Balsamic Vinegar, all bursting with flavour in the mouth.  We then tried Vitello with Tuna Sauce (130 baht) – a delightful starter of slices of Veal smothered in a light tasting Tuna Sauce – quite delicious!  To round off the starters it was on to equally delicious Baked New Zealand Green Lip Mussels (170 baht), clean large Mussel covered with Spinach, Shallots and Crispy Leeks.

For the main course dishes we chose two first class meat recipes, roasted New Zealand Lamb Chops (440 baht) with Spring Onions, Mushrooms, Roast Potato and a tasty gravy sauce.  Plus a super Chicken Cordon Bleu at 195 baht, made up of Chicken Breast stuffed with Spinach Mousse and served with a Gratin of Leek and Potato.  Finally, a seafood dish – being perfectly cooked gorgeously sweet Maine Scallops (320 baht) served on a bed of Spinach Noodles and Saffron Sauce.

To end this delightful meal, we succumbed to the tempting Desserts: house specialty Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice Cream and equally yummy Cherry Parfait with Raspberry Sauce. Scrumptious!

All in all, Louis is a fine dining experience.  Please try it!   Open Tuesday to Sunday from 2pm until late. Closed Mondays!  Prices quoted are net.  Telephone: 081 001 3298.
